GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — A Southeast Texas museum has acquired a 26-foot Navy whaleboat that's already been put on display even though it needs some work.

The Galveston County Daily News (http://bit.ly/1c2wdZO ) reported Monday that the American Undersea Warfare Center in Galveston will seek volunteers to help restore the whaleboat. Donations are being accepted to renovate the all-purpose shallow-water vessel.

Museum director Lisa Simmons says the center in Galveston plans to build a display platform for the whaleboat, which carries the markings LEX 2.

Curator DeWayne Davis says he believes the whaleboat was once aboard the USS Lexington, a World War II-era aircraft carrier that's now a museum in Corpus Christi Bay.
