DALLAS (AP) — Hundreds of families lined up on a rainy day in Dallas before the start of the Christmas in The Park Giveaway.
The event Saturday at Fair Park helps needy youngsters and their parents with gifts of toys, food, clothing and household items.
Participants were required to register in advance. Some camped out in tents or held umbrellas as temperatures Saturday morning dipped to the 30s as they waited for the opening of a building used to display automobiles during the State Fair of Texas.
Organizers with the S.M. Wright Foundation say about 10,000 children were registered to receive toys as part of the 15th annual event. More than 6,000 families were getting groceries and other personal items.
