SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The family of a San Antonio police officer shot in the head by fleeing robbery suspects says there is nothing more doctors can do.
In a statement sent to the San Antonio Express-News Wednesday (http://bit.ly/J6y3So ), the family of 31-year-old Robert Deckard said, it was time to begin letting him go. They are proud he was doing what he loved, protecting citizens, when he was wounded Dec. 8.
Police arrested 28-year-old Jenevieve Ramos and 32-year-old Shawn Ruiz Puente in the shooting, which occurred during a high-speed chase on Dec. 8. The chase ensued after a convenience store robbery. Both were charged with aggravated assault of a public servant.
Deckard's family said the officer's organs would be donated in coming days. Deckard is hospitalized at the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
