AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — Online voters have chosen 16 finalists for a new logo for a Texas city where the original effort nearly led to a court fight.

The Amarillo City Council on Tuesday reviewed finalists from hundreds of logo submissions from the public, then pared to 25 images in online voting.

The Amarillo Globe-News (http://bit.ly/19hjMNi ) reports five advertising and graphics experts will choose the winner. Prizes include a $500 gift card for the logo marking Amarillo's 100th anniversary.

The original logo developed by the city was too similar to the design of a Dubai real estate developer, which threatened legal action.

A parody logo drawn by 12-year-old Trent Connolly of Amarillo was also recognized in the newspaper contest. It shows a bull, a thumbs up and the slogan "Amarillo: better than it smells!"
