FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a 36-year-old man who fled from Fort Worth probation officers earlier this week was found critically wounded by a gunshot in a Euless motel room.

The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office released a statement early Saturday saying Euless police found David Matthew Merrill on Friday afternoon. Sheriff's spokesman Terry Grisham says Merrill, of McKinney, was in critical condition Saturday at a Fort Worth hospital.

Authorities say Merrill took off Wednesday after being told he had tested positive for methamphetamine and that his bond was being revoked. He is charged with murder in the September 2012 fatal shooting of his father-in-law, Rudy Mata, of Kennedale.

Mata was a popular rockabilly singer in the area.
