SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Investigators say a police tactical team has shot and killed a 22-year-old gunman who went to a Central Texas business and took his ex-girlfriend hostage before fleeing with her.
Sheriff's deputies around 1 a.m. Friday responded to a report of a man with a gun at a business in Bulverde (bol-VER'-dee), just north of San Antonio. Authorities say the gunman took the 19-year-old woman before a pursuit began.
The chase on Highway 46 eventually led through San Marcos, 30 miles south of Austin, as the suspect fired at deputies several times. The chase ended in southeast Hays County, where a standoff ensued before the suspect was killed from shots fired by two San Marcos officers. The woman was not hurt.
Authorities have not released the identities of the gunman or the victim.
