FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A former high school teacher in North Texas has been sentenced to the maximum 20 years in prison for having sex with several students.
A jury in Fort Worth on Wednesday sentenced 38-year-old Brandon Ashley McDaniel.
The ex-English teacher at Sam Houston High School in Arlington on Monday pleaded guilty to four counts of improper relationship between a teacher and a student. A tip led police to McDaniel, who was prosecuted on cases involving three children.
Investigators say McDaniel, between 2002 and 2012, had sex with five students ranging in age from 14 to 18. One student testified that McDaniel gave her cigarettes, marijuana and alcohol.
McDaniel was put on administrative leave after his February 2012 arrest and resigned the following month.
