AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — A West Texas couple and their son have died in the fiery crash of their single-engine plane while trying to land in Amarillo during fog.

The Department of Public Safety says the accident early Monday killed William Michael Capt, his wife Robin Lea Capt and their 19-year-old son, William Michael Capt II. The parents were 48 years old. The victims were from Canyon, 15 miles southwest of Amarillo.

DPS Sr. Trooper Chris Ray says the father recently bought the aircraft but officials aren't sure who was flying. Federal Aviation Administration records still listed the plane as registered in Naples, Fla.

Authorities are trying to determine what caused the crash on a flight from Lubbock. The plane went down in a lakebed 2 miles north of Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport.
