RICHMOND, Texas (AP) — A Southeast Texas deputy responding to a call about a barricaded man armed with a knife fatally shot the suspect when he failed to put down the weapon.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday identified the man who died as 26-year-old Michael Blair. The incident happened Monday night at a home near Richmond as deputies answered a call from relatives of the man who feared he was suicidal.
Authorities say deputies used Tasers on the man but he continued to threaten officers. The man was shot after he allegedly lunged at a deputy, who was put on administrative leave with pay following the incident.
Internal affairs officers will review the fatal shooting.
Richmond is 25 miles southwest of Houston.
