DENVER (AP) — MediaNews Group says co-founder and chairman William Dean Singleton is retiring.
The Denver Post, part of MediaNews, reported Monday (http://tinyurl.com/m6kw8ok ) that the 62-year-old Singleton will step down before the company's annual meeting in December.
Singleton co-founded MediaNews Group in 1984, and it grew to become the second-largest newspaper company in the nation measured by daily circulation.
Singleton was chairman of the board of The Associated Press from 2007 to 2012. He was chairman of the Newspaper Association of America in 2002-2003.
In a statement, Singleton says it is time for him to begin working on his bucket list.
Mac Tully, president and CEO of The Denver Post, will take over as publisher. Singleton will serve as non-executive chairman of The Post.
