DALLAS (AP) — A park created over a Dallas freeway marks its first anniversary this weekend.
Klyde Warren Park was built on a 5.2 acre deck placed over Woodall Rodgers Freeway, located on the edge of downtown. With the recent opening of the park's restaurant and its companion kiosk, the park is complete. Since opening, the park has welcomed about a million visitors, held more than 900 programs and hosted almost 50 special events.
Free activities and performances are scheduled throughout the weekend to celebrate the anniversary. On Friday night, the park will host a simulcast of "Carmen" from The Dallas Opera, which will include a pre-show sing along.
The park includes a performance pavilion, shaded walking paths, a dog park, a children's park and water features.
