EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — University of Texas System Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa tells faculty and staff at one of two merging South Texas schools that a search committee has begun its work to find a president for the new university.
Cigarroa said Thursday at the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, which will merge with the University of Texas at Brownsville, that the search committee began meeting last week. The system hopes to name the new president by next spring.
The first group of students admitted to the new combined university would begin in the fall of 2015.
Next month, Cigarroa will ask the board for funding for various things, including advisory committees on the merger, visits to other universities and a master planner to evaluate the system's assets in the Rio Grande Valley.
