WACO, Texas (AP) — An old angel at a Central Texas cemetery has new arms.
A sculptor in Waco has put the finishing touches on replacement arms for a marble statue of an angel that was damaged in January by vandals.
The Waco Tribune-Herald (http://bit.ly/1aGVTei ) reported Thursday that Rolando Saenz (signs) has been fixing the sculpture at Oakwood Cemetery. The process that required two chunks of marble and brass rods has taken Saenz about 100 hours.
The landmark statue has been at the cemetery since the 1930s at the family plot of businessman Madison A. Cooper. Relatives contributed to the restoration project after the angel's hands and forearms were broken.
Waco police say vandals caused an estimated $100,000 in damage at Oakwood Cemetery, which was established in 1878 and has more than 36,000 graves.
