BROWNWOOD, Texas (AP) — A pilot has suffered burns in the fiery crash of his single-engine airplane while attempting to land at a Central Texas airport.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash happened Tuesday morning on approach to Brownwood Regional Airport, about 125 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the Beechcraft to crash into some trees about 1,000 feet short of the runway.
Brownwood police Assistant Chief James Fuller did not immediately have the pilot's name or details on his burn injuries. Fuller says the weather was calm at the time of the crash, reported around 8 a.m. Tuesday by an airport worker.
Officials are trying to determine where the flight originated. Records show the plane is registered to an owner in Silver City, N.M.
