DALLAS (AP) — Police have brought new charges against a man accused of a string of rapes in south Dallas.
Dallas police spokesman Warren Mitchell said Monday that Van Dixson is now charged with seven aggravated robberies. Dixson was already charged with five counts of aggravated sexual assault.
The 38-year-old Dixson was a former neighborhood-watch volunteer accused of attacking women as they walked at night or in the early morning in the low-income Dallas neighborhood of Fair Park. Investigators say nine attacks were reported between June and September.
He was arrested Sept. 10 at a motel in Baton Rouge, La., and is now in Dallas County jail with bonds totaling $5.7 million.
His attorney, Kenneth Weatherspoon, did not respond to an email message.
