DALLAS (AP) — A homeowner who apparently fatally shot an intruder has been killed by responding officers when he pointed his weapon toward them.
Dallas police say the episode began with 911 calls Thursday night saying an armed man in an alley was standing over a person with a gunshot wound. The armed man, identified as 57-year-old William Hall, apparently confronted a prowler who was attempting to burglarize his home. Hall was standing over the suspect when he pointed his gun at nearby witnesses.
Police say officers ordered Hall to drop his weapon before he went into his home. He came outside again, still armed, and officers gave him further orders. He was shot by three officers when he raised his weapon toward them.
The man shot by Hall was identified as 30-year-old Jerry Hale.
