LAREDO, Texas (AP) — A Mexican man who served time for threatening to kill his girlfriend when she wouldn't marry him and was then deported must return to a U.S. prison.
A federal judge in Laredo on Wednesday sentenced 35-year-old Alejandro Mendoza-Delgado to more than two years behind bars.
Prosecutors say Mendoza-Delgado was deported last November after serving two years in prison for using a gun to threaten his then-girlfriend and her family if she didn't marry him.
In January, Border Patrol agents at a checkpoint near Laredo discovered Mendoza-Delgado was a passenger on a commercial bus bound for San Antonio. Prosecutors say he did not have permission to return to the U.S.
Mendoza-Delgado on Wednesday was sentenced to 28 months behind bars.
Details weren't released on his ex-girlfriend.
