BRYAN, Texas (AP) — A Central Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2011 drug-related killing of a teenage during a disturbance at an apartment.
A jury in Bryan on Tuesday night convicted 27-year-old Clifton Montgomery Jr. of Bryan of capital murder.
Montgomery received an automatic life term because prosecutors didn't seek the death penalty over fatal shooting of 18-year-old Raymond Cavazos. The attack happened in December 2011 at a Bryan apartment where police say Montgomery attempted to steal drugs that Cavazos was known to sell.
A co-defendant, 40-year-old Eugene Jenkins of Bryan, awaits trial on a capital murder charge.
