AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — A driver has been charged with manslaughter in the Texas Panhandle death of a 4-year-old boy who was ejected from a vehicle that was hit by two freight trains.
Potter County jail records show 38-year-old Edgar Rangel was being held Tuesday on $200,000 bond in what Amarillo police say was an alcohol-related wreck.
Jail records don't list an attorney for Rangel. He spent more than a week in a hospital being treated for injuries suffered in the Aug. 10 accident. Police have said the pickup truck was driven around the railroad crossing gates and was struck by both trains.
Investigators didn't immediately provide the boy's name or any relationship to the man.
