LOS FRESNOS, Texas (AP) — Five people in South Texas are dead after a head-on collision, including one child and one teenager.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash happened at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday near Los Fresnos, north of Brownsville. DPS spokesman Sgt. Johnny Hernandez tells the Brownsville Herald that the driver of a Toyota Rav4 appears to have veered into the path of an oncoming Toyota Corolla, causing a head-on crash.
Four people were dead at the scene, with a fifth person dying as she was being transported to a hospital.
The driver of the Rav4 is believed to be in critical condition at a San Antonio hospital.
Names of the victims were not released pending notification of next of kin.
