AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — Emergency responders using ropes and a basket have recovered the body of a hiker from Austria who died after he fell into a ravine in Texas.

The Randall County Sheriff's Office says autopsy results were pending Wednesday on 47-year-old Gerald Christoph Folser of Linz, Austria.

Sheriff's spokesman Danny Alexander says Folser apparently was hiking with a friend Monday afternoon at Palo Duro Canyon when he left a trail to take a photo. A hiker who was with Folser notified authorities when the pair became separated.

Officials believe Folser got too close to the edge of the canyon and fell. His body was located Monday night with the help of a law enforcement helicopter. Emergency responders spent several hours reaching and recovering the body from the bottom of a side canyon.
