AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — House Speaker Joe Straus says he's still hoping the Texas Legislature's special session is short and painless — but he's no longer sure it will be.

The San Antonio Express News reports http://bit.ly/11vY4wv Wednesday that Straus referenced Gov. Rick Perry's adding of abortion and juvenile justice issues, and transportation funding to the agenda.

Lawmakers were already tasked with approving new voting maps.

Addressing the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association meeting in San Antonio, Straus said redistricting was more complicated than originally envisioned.

He added: "The governor keeps adding issues to the call and I would remind people that this is only a 30-day session."

The House doesn't reconvene until Monday, when they'll be just nine days left. Straus said "we'll just have to see what the appetite is" then.
