MIDLAND, Texas (AP) — A land surveyor in West Texas has been charged with possessing unregistered firearms after he allegedly also had improvised explosives.
A federal judge in Midland has ordered Steven Leonard Prewit to be held without bond pending a detention hearing Wednesday.
The Midland man was arrested last Thursday on a sealed criminal complaint charging him with possession of unregistered firearms. He went before a judge Friday for an initial appearance as the complaint was unsealed.
Prosecutors say Prewit allegedly had fully automatic firearms, improvised explosive devices and silencers without required serial numbers.
Further details on the investigation weren't immediately released.
