HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston-area man who formerly led a violent street gang that protected drug lords and their loads has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
A federal judge in Houston on Wednesday sentenced 35-year-old Jeffrey Juarez of Sugar Land. Juarez last September pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and Ecstasy.
Prosecutors say the former leader of the Tri-City Bombers was among 13 suspected gang members indicted in February 2011 over operations in the McAllen area. All have been convicted or pleaded guilty and have been sentenced in cases going back to 2008.
