AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — A Texas Panhandle man has been charged with capital murder after being accused by authorities of fatally injuring an 11-month-old boy.
The Amarillo Globe-News reports (http://bit.ly/Y0yZhS) that 28-year-old Andrew Shane Johnson remained jailed Monday on a $1 million bond.
Authorities say the infant's mother on Thursday had left her child with Johnson, her boyfriend, and when she returned she found the baby had suffered a head injury. The infant was taken to a hospital in Amarillo, where he later died.
Investigators say an autopsy conducted Friday showed the cause of death to be blunt force trauma.
Johnson, from Spearman, was arrested on Friday.
Court records did not show an attorney for Johnson.
