DALLAS (AP) — Police say an anonymous tip led them to a suspect in a string of rapes in a middle-class neighborhood northeast of downtown Dallas.
A police statement says 30-year-old Cesar Benitez is charged with aggravated sexual assault in a Feb. 22 rape and sexual assault in a March 15 count and is under investigation in a March 19 rape.
He's jailed with bond set at more than $4.5 million.
Police Lt. Paul Stokes says the tipster gave a description that checked out with descriptions given by the Lake Highlands rape victims. Officers found Benitez driving Tuesday afternoon in north Dallas and tried to stop him. He abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee on foot but was stopped. Stokes says Benitez admitted involvement in the rapes and gave a DNA sample.
