ABILENE, Texas (AP) — A West Texas man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for using Molotov cocktails to start a fire at the convenience store where his ex-wife worked then shooting her as she fled the flames.
Prosecutors say Kenneth Mark McWilliams of Abilene was sentenced Tuesday in federal court. The woman survived the 2010 attack when Abilene police rushed to the scene and intervened.
The 54-year-old McWilliams has been in custody since his arrest following the incident. He pleaded guilty last year to one count of maliciously damaging a building by fire resulting in personal injury.
Prosecutors say McWilliams used a shotgun to shoot the woman as she exited the store, then used a stun gun to shock her and a rope to tie her. Police then subdued McWilliams.
