SNYDER, Texas (AP) — The FBI says it's involved in law enforcement efforts to identify a badly decomposed body found in West Texas.
An FBI spokeswoman said Monday the agency was asked to assist by the Texas Department of Public Safety to collect evidence at the scene.
DPS says law officers Sunday removed the remains from an undisclosed location in Scurry County near Snyder. Trooper Sparky Dean says further details on the site have not been made public as investigators seek to preserve the scene.
A person reported finding the remains in an isolated, rural area Saturday afternoon. Officials have not said the possible gender or approximate age of the person. Dean says an autopsy has been ordered.
Snyder is about 80 miles southeast of Lubbock.
