MIDLAND, Texas (AP) — A judge has recused himself from a lawsuit centered on a West Texas train crash into a parade that killed four veterans last year.

The San Antonio Express-News reports state District Judge Rodney Satterwhite stepped aside from the case without explanation. Satterwhite didn't return a call from The Associated Press Tuesday.

A retired judge from Big Spring, Robert H. Moore III, has been appointed to replace him.

Nine of the 12 couples on the float the train hit at 62 mph Nov. 15 have filed suit, accusing Union Pacific of negligence. The railroad says Midland County and city officials and the parade organizer failed to exercise "ordinary care" in parade plans.

The accident remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
