FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Authorities say DNA evidence has tied a 48-year-old man to the 1983 cold case killing of a businessman in North Texas.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram (http://bit.ly/10pyleF ) reports Benjamin Bewley is a prison parolee who was arrested in November in a West Texas DWI case.

Jail officials in Abilene say Bewley was being held without bond on charges of driving while intoxicated and violating his parole. He's now also facing a charge of capital murder.

Fort Worth pawnshop owner Melvin Lavine was fatally shot in March 1983 when his house was robbed. Police working the case sent DNA evidence to a federal database and recently confirmed a match.

Bewley was sentenced in 1992 to 20 years in prison for burglary and paroled in 2004.

His attorney had no immediate comment Friday.
