GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Barbara and Laura Bush will visit Michigan next month to take part in a symposium on first ladies.

Organizers announced Wednesday that the two former first ladies have agreed to appear at an April 8 luncheon that's part of a daylong conference in Grand Rapids.

The event not only examines the role of the first lady, but celebrates the 100th and 95th birthdays of the late former President Gerald Ford and first lady Betty Ford, respectively.

"America's First Ladies: An Enduring Legacy" is being hosted by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.

In a statement, the Fords' daughter, Susan Ford Bales, says the family is "thrilled that our dear friends Barbara and Laura Bush will celebrate Dad and Mom's remarkable legacies with us."
