EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Evansville police want to learn who cashed a check for more than $6,000 intended to pay for repairs to a restored World War II troop landing ship.
An employee of the LST 325 landing craft told police she mailed the check to Texas-based National Marine Services last month for the repairs, and it was cashed at a Texas bank, but three weeks later the company reported not received the check. The balance paid through a wire transaction Friday.
Police spokesman Sgt. Jason Cullum tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/WHixx2) that investigators will need to subpoena the bank to learn where the money went.
The LST 325 had been in Port Arthur, Texas, since January for maintenance. It's now traveling back to Evansville. It was used in the D-Day invasion.
