BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — A Montana State football recruit and senior at Glenda Dawson High School in Pearland, Texas, collapsed and died during a pickup basketball game.
Folabi Akanbi collapsed Wednesday afternoon and was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was 17.
MSU football coach Rob Ash says Akanbi was a wonderful young man who captivated everyone he met and had an incredibly bright future. He says he doesn't have the words to properly express the team's sorrow.
Akanbi signed with MSU on Feb. 6. Ash said at the time he was more impressed with Akanbi's academic skills. He planned to major in chemical engineering.
Dawson High football coach Wade Oliphant told KHOU-TV that Akanbi was a great kid who always did the right thing.
