BRYAN, Texas (AP) — A jury in Bryan is considering whether a man convicted of killing the mother of his ex-girlfriend by stabbing her 38 times should be sent to death row.
Jurors deliberated Monday for nearly five hours in the case of Stanley Wayne Robertson. They were sequestered for the night.
Robertson, from College Station, faces the death penalty or life in prison without parole for the slaying of 59-year-old Annie Mae Toliver. Toliver was abducted in August 2010 in College Station a few weeks after Robertson broke up with her daughter.
Robertson drove off with Toliver and was arrested when his fleeing vehicle hit a police car 160 miles away in Fort Worth. Toliver's body was found in a Fort Worth parking lot.
Robertson earlier was charged with assaulting her daughter, Tammy.
