RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina's Pat McCrory is joining a growing list of governors interested in expanding offshore energy exploration. McCrory said Friday he's now part of a group of coastal governors that supports activities to encourage coastal energy production as part of national energy policy.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A former Asheville police officer has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child abuse of a 3-year-old girl. Twenty-eight-year-old Aubrey Gerrard Green was sentenced to 60 days in jail suspended for 12 months. Green also was ordered to perform 24 hours of community service, pay a $100 fine.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina-based manufacturer of gelatin capsules is expanding its Guilford County facility and says it plans to create 123 jobs and invest more than $26 million over the next three years. Qualicaps Inc. is a leading manufacturer and supplier of two-piece medical and nutrition grade gelatin capsules. The company currently employs more than 150 people at its Whitsett facility.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Commuters had to deal with another morning of winter weather across much of North Carolina that is lasting through midday. Snow and freezing rain fell along the North Carolina-Virginia state line early Friday. An inch of snow, sleet and freezing rain was coating the mountains of western North Carolina.
