TEMPLE, Texas (AP) — Emergency crews in Central Texas have rescued a highway worker from a 20-foot hole by extending a firetruck ladder to help ease him to safety.
Temple Fire and Rescue spokesman Thomas Pechal (PECK'-al) says the worker suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening in Monday's accident. He was transported to a Temple hospital. His name wasn't immediately released.
Pechal says the worker was climbing down a ladder into the hole, which was reinforced with a corrugated pipe, when he slipped and fell to the bottom.
Rescuers strapped the man to a gurney that was attached to a line connected to the firetruck ladder, which then lifted the victim from the hole.
