DALLAS (AP) — Two top officials from Florida are traveling to North Texas to meet with a police detective hospitalized in serious condition with stab wounds.
Miami-Dade County Deputy Mayor Genaro "Chip" Iglesias (ee-GLAY'-see-uhs) and Miami-Dade Police Deputy Director Juan Perez will visit Thursday with the detective and his family while assisting in the search for the man suspected of stabbing the officer.
Jaime (JAY'-mee) Pardinas and another Miami-Dade detective had stopped at a Dallas area department store Monday night with 42-year-old convicted sex offender Alberto Morales. While one detective was inside Morales used a sharp piece broken from his eyeglasses to stab the 54-year-old Pardinas and flee. Morales was being transported from Florida to Nevada.
Police say Pardinas is in serious condition at a Dallas hospital and is expected to recover.
