McALLEN, Texas (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted two former South Texas police officers and two former sheriff's deputies on drug charges.
The U.S. Attorney's office said Wednesday, 28-year-old Jonathan Trevino, 29-year-old Alexis Espinoza, 28-year-old Fabian Rodriguez and 30-year-old Gerardo Mendoza-Duran were indicted on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, as well as aiding and abetting charges.
The four men were arrested in December after they accepted thousands of dollars in bribes to escort drug loads in a federal sting operation. Trevino and Espinoza were officers with the Mission police department. Rodriguez and Mendoza-Duran were deputies with the Hidalgo County Sheriff's office.
Trevino is the son of Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino and Espinoza is son of the Hidalgo police Chief Rodolfo "Rudy" Espinoza.
