ROBSTOWN, Texas (AP) — Investigators have blamed a South Texas house fire that killed a woman and her two sons on candles being used during an electrical outage.
Robstown Fire Department chief Ricardo Gonzalez on Wednesday identified the victims as 38-year-old Dalia Ortiz, 8-year-old Victor Guerrero and 13-year-old Isaac Guerrero. Gonzalez says a male adult relative in the home escaped but was unable to save the woman and her boys.
Gonzalez says stormy conditions Monday night led to power outages that prompted the family to light candles throughout the house. The fire chief says all indications point to candles as the source of the fire reported around 11:30 p.m. Monday.
A message left with an attorney for electric provider Robstown Utility Systems wasn't immediately returned Wednesday.
Robstown is 15 miles west of Corpus Christi.
