ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A former New Mexico congressional candidate accused of stalking an opponent and slashing the tires on her vehicles is also a wanted man in Texas.

El Paso police say they issued an arrest warrant in March against Gary Smith for a felony charge of aggravated assault and misdemeanor vandalism.

Kenneth Propps told The Associated Press on Friday that Smith, his neighbor at the time, slashed the tires of a number of family vehicles following a dispute over damage from a 2007 wind storm. Propps says Smith also stabbed him after he caught him slashing his tires but Smith was never arrested in El Paso.

Bernalillo County Judge Daniel Ramczyk ordered Friday that Smith held on $100,000 cash-only bond for violating conditions of his release in an Albuquerque tire slashing case.
