FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — The day after a Fort Worth police officer was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, the city's police chief said officers against whom a driving-while-intoxicated case is "sustained" by internal investigation will be fired.

Fort Worth Police Chief Jeff Halstead said Thursday, "I will not tolerate it."

He was flanked by relatives who have lost loved ones to drunken drivers.

Halstead previously pledged to decide on a case-by-case basis how to handle alcohol-involved cases, with officers convicted of DWI facing anywhere from a 15-day suspension to termination. The policy change comes after the Wednesday arrest on suspicion of DWI of a Fort Worth officer who works as a DWI enforcement officer

Halstead says 14 officers have been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and five of public intoxication since 2008.
