BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — A Southeast Texas man who pleaded guilty in a failed international murder-for-hire plot over an online relationship that ended has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
A federal judge in Beaumont on Monday sentenced 49-year-old David Houston Sartin of Anahuac (AN'-uh-wak). Sartin in August pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping and brandishing a firearm during a violent crime.
Investigators say Sartin last December sought to hire someone to abduct a woman from Kiev, Ukraine, then have her transported to the U.S. to be killed. Prosecutors say Sartin met the woman online and started a relationship that later failed.
Sartin had guns and handcuffs with him when he was arrested last March in Beaumont while trying to make the final half of a $50,000 payment to an undercover agent.
