ABILENE, Texas (AP) — A West Texas police officer has fatally shot an armed gold-sales store employee while the department was serving a search warrant at the business.
Authorities say the employee of Abilene Gold Exchange refused to put down his semi-automatic pistol when officers arrived Thursday morning.
Abilene police say an officer shot and killed the man when he moved his gun in a threatening manner.
A statement from Abilene police says it appears the officer responded with necessary and reasonable force.
A joint investigation is being conducted with the Texas Rangers because it's an officer-involved shooting.
The officers involved will be placed on administrative leave.
Officers were executing a search warrant seeking evidence related to allegations of failing to report precious metal transactions as required by the state.
