HOUSTON (AP) — School and police say a 15-year-old has been taken into custody after a gun he brought to a Houston-area high school discharged accidentally in a classroom.
No one was injured.
Spring Branch school district spokesman Steve Brunsman says the incident happened about 11 a.m. Monday as about 25 students and teachers were gathered in a classroom.
Brunsman says the students were immediately provided assistance from staff and social workers, and their parents were notified. He adds that the juvenile who was carrying the gun has been detained and the gun confiscated.
The Spring Branch school district serves about 33,000 students at some 45 campuses in and near northwestern Houston.
