DALLAS (AP) — A North Texas jury has sentenced a man to life in prison for a 1983 rape after two other men were exonerated of the crime.

The Dallas County jury found Marion Doll Sayles guilty Thursday of attempted capital murder. Prosecutors say he and co-defendant Frederick Anderson forced a woman into a vehicle at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her. They're accused of then shooting her and leaving her for dead in a field.

Two other men were given life sentences for the crime. James Curtis Williams and Raymond Jackson were placed in a photo lineup in the case and identified by the victim. DNA testing exonerated them earlier this year.

That same testing implicated Sayles and Anderson, and the victim testified against Sayles.

Anderson still awaits trial.
