HOUSTON -- The spring and summer travel seasons are quickly approaching, so if you’re looking for the cheapest hotel room, you know there are a lot of websites that promise to deliver.
One relative newcomer, launched in 2012, offers up automatic refunds if the price of your hotel room drops after you book it. It even scans dozens of other websites to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
Tingo looks like most other travel websites – you give it a city, the dates, and the number of rooms you need, and it gives you the rate. Then you book it. Should you find the rate cheaper somewhere else (or if the site does for you), you’ll get a refund on your credit card. You can also choose to upgrade to a larger room for free.
Orbitz also offers a money-back price drop guarantee, but it only compares your booked rate to the rates of other guests who booked the same room via Orbitz.
It looks like the average Tingo refund comes out to around $10-15, but some reported refunds of more than $100.
