01:41 PM CST on Tuesday, November 25, 2008
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico -- Seven bodies have been dumped at a school soccer field in the Mexican border city of Juarez.
The bodies were lined up along the field’s fence. Banners allegedly signed by a Mexican drug gang were found nearby. Officials wouldn’t give details on their messages.
The victims had been shot, beaten and choked. They were the latest in hundreds of gruesome killings in the city.
Neighbors in an upscale Ciudad Juarez neighborhood found the seven bodies around dawn Tuesday.
Mexico is caught in a rising wave of violence as drug gangs battle for territory and fight off a nationwide crackdown led by President Felipe Calderon.
