Writer explores family's shameful past

KHOU 11's Len Cannon reports

HOUSTON -- There have been many stories about African Americans tracing their roots to slavery, but rarely do you hear from a person who is willing to talk about his ancestors who owned slaves.

Tomlinson Hill sits along the Brazos River outside Waco, and at one time it was a plantation with 300 slaves.

Chris Tomlinson, author of "Tomlinson Hill," heard many stories from his grandfather

"My grandfather liked to brag that our family owned slaves, and they loved it so much, they took our last name," said Tomlinson.

KHOU 11 News Anchor Len Cannon sat down with Tomlinson, who researched what happened at Tomlinson Hill.
