HOUSTON – A woman allegedly broke into a townhome in The Heights early Thursday, leading to a three-hour standoff with police.
It started when the woman broke into a home on Beal by jumping a fence and climbing on an A/C unit. The woman broke a window and went into a bedroom where a female resident was sleeping. The resident ran outside and called 911.
The suspect got a butchers knife from the kitchen as a male roommate arrived and held her at gunpoint until police arrived. That’s when the roommate also fled the home, leaving the woman inside alone.
Negotiators weren’t able to get the woman to surrender, so eventually a police dog went in and found the woman on the third floor in the master bedroom.
She was taken into custody without further incident just before 5 a.m. No injuries were reported.
The residents of the home told police the woman was paranoid and claimed someone was chasing her. Officials are now evaluating her mental state.
