Woman extricated from SUV after 2-vehicle collision in Galleria area

HOUSTON – A woman had to be extricated from her SUV and another was hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision in the Galleria area overnight.

According to the Houston Police Department, it happened at 3:30 a.m. Thursday when a BMW was heading south on South Rice and slammed into the side of a Ford Explorer that was heading east on Richmond Avenue.

Police said the collision sent the Explorer into a light pole, leaving the female driver pinned inside the SUV.

HFD had to use “Jaws of Life” heavy rescue equipment to pry her out of the SUV. Police said she was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police said the other female driver in the BMW was transported in stable condition.

HPD is working on who ran the red light, and will be testing both drivers at the hospital for possible intoxication.
